We're in for a hot & humid weekend with afternoon temps. near 90 degrees. Only an isolated inland thunderstorm can be expected Sat. afternoon but thunderstorm chances look to be higher for Sun. afternoon with the sea breeze located closer to I-95.
The Atlantic hurricane season begins Sun., June 1st. I'll once again update "Talking the Tropics With Mike" daily -- multiple times daily if conditions warrant.
I'm continuing to monitor the Caribbean where moisture has gathered with some scattered -- though disorganized -- convection. There might be some weak low pressure in the far Western Caribbean. Forecast models continue to hint at some low pressure in the Western Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico during the next week to 10 days.
The space shuttle is scheduled to launch at 5:02pm Sat. The sea breeze could trigger a thunderstorm or two but mainly inland by 5pm. East winds will be coming off the Atlantic. Click here for launch info.
"Earth Gauge":
Mowin' Maddness......The U.S.uses 800 million gallons of gas for lawn care. Try to mow in the early morning or early evening to cut down on ground level ozone.
Swim Smart...In the ocean -- it takes a tin can 50 yrs. to degrade...plastic: 450 yrs....fishing line: 500 yrs....glass: 1,000+ yrs -- don't pollute!!
If you have a pool, you should cover it up when not in use. As much as 1,000 gallons can be lost per month to evaporation. A cover can reduce water loss by 95%.
Stay Cool.....Increase your thermostat setting by 2 degrees which cut air conditioning costs by 14%. And use a ceiling fan -- run it counter-clockwise to force
air downward. Click here for more.
Have a great & safe weekend!
