Jacksonville Int'l. Airport had a daily record rainfall Wed. with 2.85" of rain breaking the June 25 record of 2.15" set in 2006. Storms were not widespread but where the storms occurred, rainfall amounts were very heavy. JIA also had a 60 mph wind gust & marble-sized hail. At one point, our First Alert Doppler showed 2,000+ lightning strikes in just 10 minutes!
It still looks like storms will be more numerous Thu.-Fri. due to tropical moisture flooding northward across Fl. Storms will have a tendency to initiate fairly early & will produce extremely heavy rain & frequent lightning along with gusty winds.
Numerous storms will continue over the weekend & will be helped out by a weakening front moving into the Southeast U.S. Southwest surface winds will increase, so these storms should have an easier time of making it all the way to the coast.
This front will be the same front (but in a much weaker state) that'll roll from the Plains to New England Thu.-Sat. producing widespread severe storms & more heavy rainfall.
