"Project Salute" Visits Jacksonville
Jacksonville, March 18, 2008 – The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (UDM Law) has launched
a nationwide tour of its Mobile Law Office (MLO) which will provide free legal information
and assistance and will be partnering with pro bono attorneys to ensure
representation to thousands of low-income veterans on federal benefits issues
throughout the United States.
The tour will stop in Jacksonville, Tuesday,
March 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mary
Singleton Senior
Center. The Mary Singleton
Senior Center
is located at 150 E. First Street.
During this time, UDM Law will hold an educational seminar/prescreening event
to inform veterans in general of federal benefits for which they might be
eligible.
To maximize
the reach and impact of UDM Law’s Jacksonville stop,
a number of local attorneys, legal support groups, and veterans organizations
have already agreed to assist UDM Law’s PROJECT SALUTE in Jacksonville.
In addition,
the school is asking for the support of additional attorneys and will be
hosting a training session for attorneys and representatives interested in
assisting veterans and learning more about veterans federal benefits law. The training
will take place Thursday, March 20, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville
Area Legal Aid. The Jacksonville Area Legal Aid is located at 126 W. Adams Street.
