Summer Reading Program For Kids and Teens

WHEN: June 1 July 31, 2008

WHERE: All Jacksonville Public Library locations

The Jacksonville Public Library offers a whole, wide world of reading for kids and teens to discover this summer.

In June and July, the Library will host summer reading opportunities and special programs.

Duval County residents, aged 12 to 18 can volunteer at any library and participate in an essay contest for a chance to earn a $700 college scholarship donated by George Koury & Associates Insurance. Teens can enter to win prizes after completing summer reading and also register for the second annual Teen Battle of the Bands happening June 21 at the Main Library (Battle of the Band registration concludes May 31).

Kids, aged 6 to 12 are encouraged to attend story times along with unique programs such as, didgeridoo down under Australian music, curious moon puppet show and art reach paper making. As books are completed, special passports will be stamped and tracking summer reading will be fun. After reading five books kids can enter to win a bicycle courtesy of the Jacksonville Suns.

Generous support for these programs has been made by J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver. For more information about summer reading programs, visit your nearest library, call 630-2408 or log onto jaxpubliclibrary.org for a schedule of events.
