MUSIC@MAIN: SYNTHESIS -- Music for Solo Violin by J.S. Bach and David Paul
MUSIC@MAIN Wednesday, June 25, 2008 @ 6:30 p.m.
Synthesis Solo Violin Music of J.S. Bach and David Paul
In his Sonatas and Partitas for unaccompanied solo violin, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) synthesized the French, German, and Italian styles vying for dominance in the world of music of his time and created what is widely considered the pinnacle of Baroque solo instrumental literature.
In the program Synthesis, David Paul presents some of Bach's best loved pieces for solo violin along with his original work: Adagios, Allegros and Dance music side by side. The program offers a 21st century synthesis of its own as Mr. Paul brings classical, celtic and contemporary music to the stage.
David Paul is a graduate of St. Olaf College (Bachelor's degree) and Rice University (Master's degree), and was a full-time member of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for seven years, also appearing as soloist during his tenure. For more information on Mr. Paul and his music, including sound files, visit www.musicbydavidpaul.com.
MUSIC@MAIN concerts are free and open to the public, and reservations are not required.
