Description / Comments

WHAT:         Hubbard House will host the 14th Annual Barbara Ann Campbell Memorial Breakfast which is held annually to honor former Mayor Jake Godbold’s sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Campbell, whose life tragically ended when her husband shot her then killed himself, in 1995. At the breakfast, we celebrate Barbara Ann Campbell's life and honor her memory by encouraging the Jacksonville community to unite and realize that domestic violence truly is everyone’s issue. By embracing this concept and working together we take another step towards preventing other lives from being tragically lost.

This year’s keynote speaker is a courageous survivor who has spoken nationally on her experiences; a survivor who was helped by Hubbard House!  Amanda Smith sought refuge in Hubbard House’s emergency shelter and received help with court advocacy and other services when she left her abuser after seven years of physical, psychological, and verbal abuse.  Amanda uses her experiences to help other survivors.  As a consultant and advocate, she has worked closely with several national and local organizations such as the National Network to End Domestic Violence, the National Stalking Institute, and the Allstate Economic Empowerment Initiative. Amanda is a member of the United States Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women Transitional Housing Steering Committee.
